When you join the Graduate Student-at-Large program, you join an esteemed community of scholars, faculty, and alumni that make up the University of Chicago.
As a Graduate Student-at-Large, you can enroll in courses at the University of Chicago before you apply to graduate or professional degree programs. Applicants come from diverse backgrounds, including recent undergraduates, career changers, those interested in new professional fields, and international students. What these students share in common is a curiosity and determination to continue their studies in their field of interest.

With purposeful academic advising and access to the University’s student support resources, the GSAL experience will help you acquire the knowledge, faculty support, and academic credentials to pursue your own research in any future graduate program, within the University of Chicago or elsewhere.
