/pɒp/Asia

/pɒp/ - is the phonetic representation of the word “pop”. It’s also a shortened form for popular, as in pop culture… culture that shifts and transforms over time. Many global cultural trends like manga and K-pop originated in Asia and there are more to come.

The UChicago Yuen Campus /pɒp/Asia series will take on topics that originate, revolve around and affect Asia and Asians, particularly the youth in the Asia-Pacific Region.

From music and anime to tattoos and crypto, we’ll explore the cultural goings-on in deep corners around the region and how they are influencing the rest of the world.

Learn more out about what’s going on and the cultural impact these trends are having before they go mainstream globally.
